What is Microsuction?

Microsuction is the safest way to remove a build up of ear wax. We’ll use Medical Loupes to look into your ears and a small suction tube to ‘hoover’ out the wax. It’s suitable even if you’ve had a perforation or surgery to your ears. We also offer irrigaiton for times where this is preferred or more suitable.

Ear Wax Microsuction – Care That Works for You

At Ear Matters Exeter, we believe everyone should be able to access ear wax removal in a way that feels comfortable, respectful and right for them. We understand that visiting a clinic can sometimes feel daunting. Seeking help can sometimes seem challenging. For some people, unfamiliar environments, past health experiences, communication difficulties, sensory sensitivities or simply not knowing what to expect can make accessing healthcare more difficult. You may need a little extra time during your appointment, prefer information to be explained in a particular way, or need us to make adjustments to help you feel comfortable. For example, you may benefit from:

  • Popping in to meet us before your appointment and seeing the clinic

  • Extra time before or during your appointment

  • Information explained slowly, clearly or in a different format

  • Simple, step-by-step explanations of what we are doing

  • Being given time to ask questions or process information

  • A quieter or less rushed approach

  • Additional reassurance before the procedure

  • Bringing a carer, support worker, family member or other person with you

  • Adjustments for sensory or communication needs.

If you have additional requirements, please email us before your appointment, so that we can discuss your needs and make any reasonable adjustments where possible. Having this information beforehand can help us understand how best to support you and make your appointment feel as comfortable and predictable as possible. Even if you're not sure whether we can accommodate your needs, please get in touch. We'd much rather have a conversation beforehand and see what we can do, than have you feel unable to access our service. Your comfort, dignity and wellbeing are important to us.

What our patients say…

“The Nurse was fantastic. She gave a clear outline of the procedure and good advice on caring for my ears in the future. I found being able to see the wax in my ear canal with the camera really interesting, and the after picture amazing!

The whole experience felt safe during this strange time with COVID, and a relief to hear again.” Olivia Dec 2020

“I am so pleased this service exists in Exeter!

Jo had such a caring and helpful approach, completely putting me at ease. The whole process from initial phone call to the email explaining their covid policies and consent form to the appointment itself (in my home!) was really slick whilst remaining personal. I would heartily recommend this service to anyone with ear related concerns. I felt really looked after” Kate Feb 2021

“Jo immediately out me at ease explaining what was going to happen. This included showing me the equipment she used - I even got to see the inside of my ears on a screen! Such a relief to hear properly again. I felt in very safe hands and would definitely recommend her” Rosie Feb 2021

“OMG, I can hear again. You did it and got that tick sized piece of wax off my ear drum. Flippin’ fantastic, my hearing has gone back to what it was, perfect! I can’t thank you enough. Superb job.

I can highly recommend Jo and Rebecca what happy and friendly ladies you are. Go and get your ears sorted with Ear Matters” Pete March 2021
